The crew of the USS Discovery will be making their first appearance on the big screen soon, The GWW has learned. ViacomCBS is developing a new ‘Star Trek’ movie, which will be following the characters of ‘Star Trek: Discovery.’
The feature film will be produced by ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ alums John Weber (‘Vikings,’ ‘Locke & Key’), Frank Siracusa (”The Handmaid’s Tale,’ ‘Locke & Key’) and Thom Pretak (‘Beauty and the Beast,’ ‘Reign’), with; Alex Kurtzman (‘Star Trek: Picard,’ ‘Salvation’), Heather Kadin (‘Star Trek: Picard,’ ‘Salvation’), Aaron Harberts (‘Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,’ ‘Reign’), and Akiva Goldsman (‘Titans,’ ‘Doctor Sleep’) executive-producing.
Furthermore. we have learned that the film is set to start production as soon as physically possible. The movie is unable to start production currently due to the shutdown caused by the COVID-19 outbreak, but the movie is planned to begin principal photography immediately after the shutdown lifts.
While the budget of the movie is unknown, sources close to the industry have informed us that the budget will most likely be between sixty million dollars and eighty million dollars.
What is clear, however, is that with a feature film in development, ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ being renewed for a fifth season and the flagship show having multiple spin-off series (including a Captain Pike series) in the works, CBS is very happy with ‘Discovery.’ We cannot wait to see what else ViacomCBS has in the works for us ‘Star Trek’ fans!
The currently-untitled movie is set to film in the new CBS Studios and Pinewood Studios.
There is no release window as of now.
