Jan 16, 2019

Netflix has made an announcement for a new comedy series: ‘Space Force.’ The series is from ‘The Office’ alums Steve Carell and Greg Daniels. The series is a workplace comedy centering around the people tasked with creating a sixth branch of the armed services.

For context, back in June, Trump officially directed the Pentagon to create the so-called space force. In December, he signed an order for the Pentagon to create the Space Command. He saw this as the first step in establishing a space force that would fall under the purview of the U.S. Air Force.

Carell co-created the series with Daniels and will star in addition to executive producing. Daniels will also executive produce and serve as showrunner.

‘Space Force’ marks the second regular TV role that Carell has lined up in the past few months. Currently, he’s the male lead in the untitled Apple morning show drama opposite Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. Carell is well-known for playing Michael Scott over seven seasons on ‘The Office.’

Carell recently starred in awards contender ‘Vice’ as Donald Rumsfeld. Last year he led ‘Welcome to Marwen’ and ‘Beautiful Boy.’ His other notable film roles include the ‘Despicable Me’ and ‘Anchorman’ franchises, and ‘The Big Short.’ Moreover, ‘Foxcatcher’ earned him an Academy Award nomination.

Five-time Emmy winner Daniels developed the American version of ‘The Office’ for television and served as showrunner. He also co-created ‘King of the Hill’ and ‘Parks and Recreation.’ His other writing credits include ‘Saturday Night Live’ and ‘The Simpsons.’

However, an episode count and premiere date will be announced at a later time. Watch the teaser below!
