Making his comic debut, Scott Mescudi, known as Kid Cudi, brings us Moon Man #1. Collaborating with writer Kyle Higgins, they present a world where humanity strives to return to the moon.

The series begins with Roman and his crew isolated after losing contact with mission control for seven minutes during a lunar landing attempt. After six weeks of observation, they are released, and Roman’s life begins to change.

Locati’s art blends seamlessly with the visuals, integrating out-of-body experiences into the real world and immersing readers in Roman’s evolving reality. The artwork effectively grounds readers in the characters’ mindsets as they navigate various locations throughout the story.

The partnership between Cudi and Higgins proves successful as they lay a solid foundation for the characters. Higgins’ expertise in this genre shines through, providing subtle guidance that allows the focus to remain on character development.

Overall, Moon Man #1 is an impressive debut for Kid Cudi. The thematic exploration of sci-fi elements intertwined with real-world issues, such as space exploration and corporate interests, resonates with contemporary concerns. Seamlessly incorporating these themes into the narrative demonstrates the series’ potential for expanding and exploring diverse storylines within this universe.

Moon Man is a captivating read, and I eagerly anticipate future issues and any potential spinoffs following its announcement at New York Comic Con in 2023.
